 Taurus vs. CZ vs. Ruger......

Hey, I'm looking into buying a full size 9mm pistol and I have come down to the Ruger P-89, CZ-75B, and the Taurus PT92. I have chosen these because I want a high-cap 9mm with a manual safety, in DA/SA for about 350$ NIB. What do people think of these pistols? Any experiances? I'm most interested in reliablity and ergonomics. Accuraccy is nice too but not as important to me. I have settled on these pistols so please don't suggest other calibers, models, manufacturers, or buying a used glock, sig, 1911, baretta, HK...etc.

Ideas?

I think the CZ has the best ergonomics out of the three.

First in line to say CZ. I love mine. Best bang for the buck of any of my handguns.

ETA - Damn, 2nd in line.

+1 CZ-75B

I've owned the P89 and the CZ-75B so I can tell you from personal experience that IMHO the CZ is the better gun.

I have personally never owned but I have fired a Thaurus PT-92 and I didn't like it.

I had a Ruger KP-89 with a manual safety and I loved it. The gun ate everything it was fed. Never a malfunction ever. Although, the ergonomics left something to be desired. I have only handled a CZ-75 and was thoroughly impressed with the firearm. Very comfortable and I heard nothing but great review's on it. Last on the list would be the Taurus. A friend of mine had one and the trigger pull on double action sucked. It was a so so gun. I think you would be well served by the Ruger and CZ.

I own a Ruger KP95DC, ugly as home made sin, as reliable as a Timex. I have never had a single FTF or FTE. Can't beat the Ruger lifetime warranty either. That being said, I do like the CZ, and hope to add one to the safe one day.

To a CZ owner it is almost insulting you would compare to shit like Ruger. Ruger autos does however have excellent revolvers they are ugly as sin though. Buy the CZ-75 or 97 you will not regret it.

I have really enjoyed my P89. It eats everything I feed it and doesn't choke on cheap aftermarket mags. It is a tank- pretty wide for a 9MM, but if you don't need something easily concealable, I'd say go for it.

My Springfield Armory P9 (a CZ75 clone) in my opinion is the best 9mm ever made.

I got a Taurus PT92 and love it. Has a life time warranty regardless if you're the 1st or 1st+n owner. May take a couple of months, but they'll fix it regardless. Got mine used for $225. The Taurus PT92 has a reputation that you cannot kill the d@#% thing regardless of how much you shoot it.

Go with the CZ75B. It the best and a bargain for what it costs. I put a set of CZ checkered wood grips on mine.

If you get the CZ, get the Mec-Gar mazines for it. They feed like the originals and you can find them for about 20 bucks a piece.

In my opinion, the CZ75 is on of the greatest 9mm handguns on the planet. Mine has never failed me and it is very accurate and feels great in the hand.

Get the CZ.

One more vote for CZ. I have a 75B and love it. Very accurate and reliable, ergonomic and pleasant to shoot.

I lean heavily towards the CZ. My only complaint with the CZ is that the ergonomics were designed with big hands in mind. For my small hands the grip feels too thick and the trigger is too far forward.

My old Ruger P-85 has been dead nuts reliable, with all kinds of ammo. The ergonomics, however, aren't great.

I don't have a CZ, but they feel good in the hand. If I were spending today, I'd go CZ.

Well if Jeff Cooper (the 1911 god himself) had nice things to say about any other gun it was the CZ I made the mistake of paying WAY to much for a very early backdoor import. Then the wall fell and my gun lost all its value. I am looking to ditch my SW 469 and trade up to a new CZ now that I can get normal mags for them.

CZ75B. I bought mine on sale at the local gunstore for $275, not including taxes and fees. The CZ75 is the world standard for 9mm Para pistols. Feels good in the hand, mags readily available all over the world.

Never shot a CZ, but they look good. The Taurus is built off Beretta degigns ,if I am not mistaken. The Ruger seems blocky to me. I would pick a CZ if it felt right, followed by the Taurus.

I would say CZ by a long shot.

The ones I've handled felt great.

I did own a Ruger P-90 [.45], it was pretty reliable, but the ergos sucked, and it wasn't the most accurate thing in the world.

Someone has to say it - get all three.

That said - I own a ruger, brother owned a torrus, we both own cz's. (none of these necessarily in the models you mentioned). I like my rugers (own a rifle and a revolver), inho they make good products.

The CZ is a joy to shoot - you will not go wrong there.

The torrus is one of few guns that has been disposed of. It needed a trigger job badly and just was not worth putting money into it. That said, we prefer our kimbers - 45's are just more fun.

I own the taurus in 40, so it is basically the same thing. Works pretty well. The only time I have had any failures with it was with fiochi ammo.
The only other problem I had was the nickle finish started peeling, but that was a known issue with taurus at the time. As i understand it, they have fixed their finish issues.
I also own a p9 in 40, a cz clone that springing field put out.
I like it a bit better, and now use it as my carry instead, but I have to say a few bad things about it. If your hands are a bit fat, you will get hammer bite. I tried trimming the spurs off the hammer, and it only helped that I don't bleed every time. Also, some of my reloads didn't function in it, till I got a crimp die to clean them up a bit. Tighter specs I guess. Oh, and this is only springfields problem, mine had the ambi saftey, and one side fell out. They said they could not fix it, so now it is one sided like the rest.
Never owned or shot the ruger.

Not that Ruger makes shit necessarily it's just that after shooting a CZ-75 next to a Ruger P series the 75 feels way better in the hand, points more naturally than the Ruger and as far as I can tell was more accurate. This of course is just my opinion.

Well, I own several Rugers, Sigs, and HKs. I have shot a CZ75. Not really any noticeable difference between the Ruger and CZ insofar as accuracy. The Ruger is reliable as hell. I can't comment on the CZ. I am not knocking the CZ, but the comments about Rugers are just ignorant.

Personally, I don't like the absence of a decocker on the CZ. They may have added one, but the last few I have fired did not have it. Yeah, I know, you should be able to decock manually, but I like having a decocker.

CZ does make a decocker version which is called the 75 BD I believe. They also make a single action only version called the 75 B SA for what it's worth.

As far as accuracy goes that is a relative term. If the gun doesn't point naturally then it won't be accurate in my hands. My test for determining what guns have a natural point for me is to place the handgun at the low ready position, close my eyes and then extend the handgun out and open my eyes. The closer the sights come to lining up naturally the better. I do this repeatedly before making a decision. The handguns that point the most natural for me are the Browning Hi-power, CZ-75, EAA Witness & Beretta 92FS in that order.

I have several P series and I will compare them favorably with not only those 2, but several others. Could what you say be a result of gun snobbery?

My P90 is at least 8 years old with more rounds through it than I can remember and never one single problem, period.

Damn, Larry! Who the heck pissed in your cornflakes??

Take it easy, guy. There's plenty of room for a Ruger in the stable, if that's what you want.

Just get a CZ first. I also like carrying it locked-and-cocked, which is very difficult to find in other DA pistols.

Hang in there, and, GET BOTH (-AND- the Taurus!)
