Well, for a longer term solution, you need a better bank. One that won't put a hold on your money and that will let the employees exercise a little bit of common sense.

Have you tried a check cashing place?

If you want to flirt with overdraft fees, go write a check of your own +40 over at the grocery store and deposit the one you have.

Your bank won't accept anything else? Ask them.

I'm betting you can use one or more (meaning you may have to bring 2 or more) of the following:

-Passport
-CCW
-Utility bills
-Company (employee) ID
-Voter registration

Most of the time you will have to bring (a) one state-issued form of ID (e.g. Passport) or (b) two or more forms of ID that are not state-issued but at least one has your picture on it.

I don't even know where to start. First don't cash the check, deposit it. Use your debit card at the pump. Problem solved. If they won't let you deposit without current ID, take it to a different branch and drop it in the night deposit (in an envelope with a deposit slip). Also, find a bank with a better funds availability policy--try your local credit union first.

Second, don't let your license expire. Problem solved.

Your license expired so you are magically no longer you?

It's a fucking laminated card with a picture and text. That picture, combined with what the text says, is intended to establish your identity. It isn't Cinderella's fucking coach turning into a pumpkin on the expiration date.

What kind of void looks at the expiration date on a license anyway? Ask for your branch manager, and hopefully his walnut-sized brain can see through the fog and realize the fucking license is still a license. If he states that it's policy, then he's just being a douche. Presumably you are not trying to cash a check for $250,000.

Deposit it at an ATM. Some of the funds should be immediately available.

Do NOT do this. Usually checks deposited at an ATM are not available for at least 2-3business days.

The drop box by the door is checked every morning which means your money will be deposited tomorrow. I would just deposit it and then use the ATM card which will most likely not have the charge placed until tomorrow (after the check shows up)

The Arabs around here don't check the name on the check, much less your ID.

Depends on how big the check is, Bank of America immediately gives you $100 of available funds. The rest is held for the 2-3 days

Like it or not once a license expires in most states it is no longer a valid form of ID.

Ive seen people get denied at the bar before because their license was expired and they had nothing else to prove their age.

My wife recently had a bad check cashed under her name because a stolen ID that was expired over 6 months. If more places ignored the expiration date, we would be looking at a whole lot more fraudulent charges against her.

If I make a deposit at an ATM, the bank will credit my account for the amount of the deposit up to $200. I could put nothing in the ATM and I would still get the $200 credit to my account. Of course that would be fraud, but you get my point.

Yup I couldn't let someone into the bar without a valid ID. ABC rules not mine, I wasn't getting a fine on the bar because someone couldn't get their ID renewed.

Common sense or not, once it expires it is no longer accepted as ID. I was late renewing my license and it expired before I sent out the renewal paperwork. I had to carry my passport on me for 4 weeks until my new DL came in as bars/clubs/liquor stores and banks wouldn't accept my expired DL.

Its that establishments believe if the card's expired you've possibly handed it off to someone that looks like you for whatever reason.

Back when I was an underage drinker we would just get a replacement DL that was still valid to solve that problem. Some people are just so easy to fool.

Shit, the first time I renewed my drivers license in MD, they took my picture, then punched a hole in the expired one and gave it back to me. They said if I ever lost the new one, to bring in the expired one as proof and they would issue a replacement.

Fast forward a year and I lost my wallet in the East River near Annapolis in a non-tragic boating accident. I grab my expired Drivers license with a hole punched in it and head for the MVA. The clerk took one look at the old license and said "You can't have this it's against the law" and cut it in two with a pair of scissors. She then proceeds to tell me that she is unable to issue me a replacement drivers license because I do not have sufficient proof of ID. I said rude things to her, then talked to her boss and we established what I would have to bring to establish that I was me after they had turned me into a non-person. then I went home to return another day.

I have cordially hated the MVA of MD ever since!

Took my wife to "On The Border" in Memphis, TN on her birthday at lunch time. AR driver's license expire on your birthday, and she was going to renew later in the day when we got back home. She ordered a margarita, and they refused to serve her because her driver's license was expiring that day. I would have thought that expiration would have at LEAST been midnight that night. She was kind of flattered, though - she is 32 and still gets carded.
