I have a spare AR15/M4 upper does anyone know of a tutorial that shows the correct way

to remove the carry handle and install a picatinny rail? I have a milling machine and nothing

to lose, except the carry handle. If it works out Ill give the upper to a freind for his birthday if

it doesn't then I haven't lost anything.

I'm guessing this is where you get inventive and just be sure to measure twice and cut once.

How about putting up a WTT ad here in the EE. Surely there is someone that would trade you.

if you do decide to go ahead and cut away are you going to cut down to a full flattop, or leave the rear sight like the rock river UTE upper?

i think i would just get a stripped flattop upper and move everything over to it.seems like a lot less hassle and can be done for around $80 + shipping. Probably should have an action block too for around $30-40.

Buy the tools to remove the barrel and replace the upper receiver with a flat top. There is not enough material on an A2 upper to properly machine the rails into it I believe.

Once again Buy a replacement upper receiver and change it out.

It used to be done, when all that was available were A1 or A2 receivers. The carry handle would be removed and a weaver rail screwed on.

I have not done it, and only seen one that had been done outside of photographs.

Now trading for an A3 would make a lot more sense. But it is your receiver.

check this from http://www.sskindustries.com/tactical.htm

The scope base may be welded or screw-threaded attached. Maybe give them a call to ask what they do there...

If you take the rear sight off back up iron sights dont line up right and the rail is only good for scope mounting

How do you figure that...If its machined correctly it would line up. Milling an A1 or A2 to a flattop is kind of stupid nowadays though, you can get a NIIB CMT A3 flattop upper for $95 shipped and A2s on the EE ususally go for around $115 :D

roger, all thanks for the advice.

I think I will mill off the carry handle and attach a piece of picatinny rail, if it doesnt work or

looks ghetto I will buy a new upper receiver and switch them out.
