Is there a jig or something that novice gunsmith can use to put a standard F style front sight base on a stripped barrel correctly and if so what are the procedures.

Just send it to adco.
It will get done correctly for cheaper, with less headaches, and in less time than trying to do it yourself.

Yep, ADCO is the way to go.

Armalite does make a clamp-on FSB:

I have two but have yet to actually use them... if your life depends on your AR I would properly pin it but this is a convenient option for range guns.

Thanks for the link. Now I can take advantage of low cost of the various barrels being offered without front sights. I really like the look or the standard front sight base. I can always change it out if I decide to put a low profile gas block. It is still way cheaper to than going to ADCO. I am surprised no one as come up with some kind of Jig for it since there is so many tools, attachments and varitions to the AR's.

Aren't the Armalite clamp on A-2 style front site bases' for use on rifle length platforms.

I've been waiting for them to come out with an F marked FSB for years now, there is plenty of demand.

I'm pretty sure it's a good thing to have flats milled into your barrel if using a set screw FSB.

It helps, but is not a necessity.
IIt will be easier to zero the FSB if the barrel has flats or dimples

There are a couple of companies selling jigs for FSB mounting, or it can be done without a jig if you have a quality drill press or vertical mill and are resonably skilled with using them.

Here's a link to a good tutorial on FSB mounting by a very respected member and custom AR parts maker, read all the way through the threads, there are links to where you buy jigs and lots of tips.
